- Fruit/Veg: Sweet potato
- Animal: Sugar Glider
- Bakery: Croissant
- Toys & games: Slingshot
Gender: I’ve still been going back and forth. I don’t feel like my pregnancy is much different this time around than it was with Chad, but I did get morning sickness sooner and it went away sooner so maybe it’s a girl…? I’d love a girl, but I’d also love a boy. So either way, it works out.
Baby Names: I’ve been thinking about them lately but haven’t found any new ones I like. Kurt keeps telling everyone, “If we have a boy or a girl, the baby’s name will be John.” He thinks it’s funny…I do not.
Cravings: No cravings really, which has actually been nice. I don’t like feeling like I’m being controlled by something.
Aversions: Processed foods, chili, salsa, peppers
Symptoms: Headaches, dehydration, exhaustion, fatigue, trouble sleeping, cramps, ligament pain, legs falling asleep.
Nausea/Morning Sickness: In general, I’m not really sick anymore and I don’t feel nauseated unless I smell something really bad or I don’t eat/drink often enough.
Movement: A little bit! I feel like I felt more movement with Chad, but I know that baby is doing well.
Sleep: Not great…but it doesn’t help that Chad hasn’t been sleeping through the night recently.
Maternity Clothes: I’m still able to wear any non-maternity clothes that aren’t too short & pants that don’t have buttons. Shorter shirts and jeans with buttons are officially out now because they’re too tight.
Wedding ring on/off?: On!
Favorite Moment of the Week: Having my sister in town! Christine is my twin sister, and I haven’t seen her in 8 months! We went to SALT LDS Retreat in Salt Lake City. It’s an LDS conference for Women and it was great. I loved hearing the speakers and my favorite part was watching the video(s) that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be putting out for Easter! Keep an eye out for the hashtag #PrinceofPeace between the end of March thru April 16th. While she was here, we ate A LOT of food. We had:
- Cafe Rio (sweet pork barbacoa, obviously)
- Red Iguana
- Swig (love me some fruit water)
- Slab Pizza (I got the White, and Tine got the Austin &the Thai)
- Current Fish & Oyster (we went here with my cousin, Matt, and his friends for dinner one night. SO GOOD!)
- The Baked Bear (ice cream sandwiches)
Least Favorite Moment of the Week: Overall, this week has been really good, so I don’t have any moments that I didn’t love this week.
Looking Forward To: Going to my appointment next week, getting my lashes done, and getting ready for our trip.
- Fruit/Veg: Mango, Zucchini
- Animal: Four-toed Hedgehog
- Bakery: Crêpe Suzette
- Toys & games: Gameboy
Gender: I’ve been thinking boy. You all probably think I’m crazy for changing my mind all the time haha
Baby Names: We talked baby names a little bit, but not much. We’ve solidified a girl name, but no boy name yet. We have a couple boy names on the list that we like but don’t feel like we really love right now. I think a lot of that feeling comes from not knowing the gender. It’s so hard to come up with a name for a baby that could hypothetically be a boy or a girl! But no matter what, Baby Bear’s name is going to stay quite until he/she is born.
Cravings: Not a whole lot of cravings this week, which has been nice. I really don’t want a ton of cravings or aversions to kick in with our cruise coming up!
Aversions: No aversions, except when things smell really bad…then I’m not in the mood to eat anything.
Symptoms: Weird dreams, trouble sleeping, back pain
Nausea/Morning Sickness: I’ve been able to keep this under control for the past several weeks and it’s been a game changer! There’s nothing worse than feeling sick and not being able to do anything about it.
Movement: YES! I haven’t felt as much movement as I did when I was pregnant with Chad. I don’t know whether that’s a sign or indicator of anything, but baby is healthy and I’ll take that.
Sleep: Not great. I wake up a lot so I’ve had to start taking a sleeping pill again. I get the WEIRDEST dreams so I don’t really look forward to sleep. You guys…these dreams are awful. Nothing bad happens in them but they’re just so weird that I hate sleeping because I know I’m going to have a weird dream!
Maternity Clothes: I’m in that weird phase where almost nothing fits but maternity clothes are still a little big, especially maternity pants. Good thing I’ll be in swimsuits and dresses all next week!
Wedding Ring on/off?: On
Favorite Moment of the Week: It’s been such a busy week this week! I got to see my cousin, Matt, that I haven’t seen in years. He was in Salt Lake City this week so we grabbed dinner. We did a lot of prep for our trip coming up as well. It makes me excited for going on vacation, but sad that we have to leave Baby Chad behind.
Least Favorite Moment of the Week: My sister left on Tuesday, so that was really sad! It’s always so fun having her visit. Chad loves playing with her & chasing her around, so I know he didn’t like having her leave either.
Looking Forward To: Our cruise! We are going on a cruise to celebrate Kurt’s 30th birthday, our 4 year wedding anniversary (in April) and to get a babymoon in before Baby Bear arrives. This will be our first real vacation since we got married. Kurt has always been such a hard worker, but he’s never been in a position where he can leave work behind entirely. We went to Virginia last year to visit Kurt’s parents & so he could run the Monument Avenue 10K, and he still worked at least 40 hours that week!! We are so grateful that both Kurt and I can put work on hold and enjoy some time, just the 2 of us. It’ll be weird, but we’re excited!
- Fruit/Veg: Belgian Endive, Banana
- Animal: Axolotl (pretty appropriate after spending a week in Mexico!)
- Bakery: Palmier cookie
- Toys & games: Paper Airplane
Gender: We find out next week when we get back from Mexico! I had a lot of people throw out their guesses while we were in Mexico and on our cruise ship. Most people said Girl, but we’ll see! 🙂
Baby Names: We talked baby names on our trip and there really is no chance that our girl name will change from what we have decided. Our boy names are pretty up in the air right now, mostly because we haven’t decided whether we’re tired of the ones we already came up with haha. I guess we’ll get a better idea next week when we find out the gender!
Cravings: I didn’t have a ton of cravings because there is SO much food on the ship! If I was craving something, I could probably have it everyday because they had everything. I did eat a lot of fruit though. Breakfast, lunch and dinner I was eating fruit. It was sooooo good.
Aversions: Raw meat. Kurt took me to a market in Mexico, similar to ones in Brazil, where everything is available to buy: clothes, toys, raw meat, fruits, veggies, etc. Let me tell you…it smelled AWFUL! One whiff of raw meat and I was about to throw up.
Symptoms: A little bit of nausea, fatigue, lack of sleep, body aches, hives, swollen feet.
Nausea/Morning Sickness: I had a little bit, but most of it came from when we could feel our ship rocking the last 3 days.
Movement: Lots! I love feeling Baby Bear move. It’s my favorite 🙂
Sleep: Not great. The bed on the cruise could’ve been worse, but I just can never get comfortable. Add in the rocking of a boat and it’s kind of downhill from there. It’s not that the beds were uncomfortable, I just sleep with a mountain of pillows at home so that’s what I was used to.
Maternity Clothes: I wore dresses and swimsuits most of the time. I’ll definitely be needing some maternity suits for this summer because my regular ones won’t fit once we’re in swimsuit season.
Wedding Ring on/off?: I didn’t wear my ring at all this week but that’s just because I didn’t bring it on our cruise. The weirdest part about not wearing a ring is that most people thought I was Kurt’s pregnant girlfriend! We’d get questions about whether it’s our first child together, are we getting a vacation in since we probably won’t be going on a honeymoon, how long we’ve been together and when is the big day (not referring to my due date). I got so used to these questions that when someone asked about my due date, I said, “Oh, we’re already married.” And they gave me this weird look haha! Pregnancy brain.
Favorite Moment of the Week: Going on our cruise. We had such a wonderful time. We went to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas. On the first day of our cruise we said to each other, “So…when are we going to do this again?” It was that much fun. We also had such a wonderful time reuniting with Chad. Chad spent a week in Santa Barbara with my parents. He was actually pretty sad to be reunited with us haha.
Least Favorite Moment of the Week: Leaving Chad behind. Obviously he is in good hands and we knew we were going to have fun, but it was so hard for me leaving him. I cried after we got in line to board our ship.
Looking Forward To: SEEING CHAD, finding out the gender of Baby Bear, and getting ready for General Conference.
- Fruit/Veg: Baby Bok Choy
- Animal: Least weasel
- Bakery: Large brioche à tête
- Toys & games: Baseball hat
Gender: IT’S A BOY! Man…I can’t believe I’m a boy mom! I was pretty convinced we were having a girl. The ultrasound couldn’t lie though- it’s definitely a boy! I’m pretty overwhelmed with a wide range of emotions, but overall I am so excited that we are having a boy and that Chad gets a little buddy to grow up with.
Baby Names: Now that we know we’re having a boy, we don’t love the names we’ve had on our list since before we had Chad. We were so set in stone with everything for a girl so we’re regrouping and trying to get things figured out for a boy…and we have 19 weeks to figure it out so we are in no rush! We want to make sure his name is perfect for him. We stayed up really late one night this week throwing names back and forth and we haven’t found any that really click yet. When we had Chad, we brought 2-3 names to the hospital with the intent of using Chad, but had back ups in case we saw him and he didn’t look like a “Chad”. We will probably do the same thing with this one- name won’t be official until we see our sweet boy, which is another reason why we don’t share our names…you never know which one your going to end up using!
Cravings: I’ve been craving anything that requires me to not cook haha
Aversions: Not much…but smells still set me off big time!
Symptoms: Thirst, hives, dry skin (doesn’t help that I got sunburned in Mexico), fatigue, ligament pain, headaches.
Nausea/Morning Sickness: Not a ton, but I feel awful when I don’t drink enough.
Movement: After having my ultrasound, I feel like I’ve felt Baby Bear move more this week than I have in the past 4. He’s all over the place! The ultrasound tech had a really hard time getting a profile shot of him because he was so wiggly. He’s already pretty cramped for space- he’s a big boy already, just like his older brother!
Sleep: I’m really sick and tired of weird pregnancy dreams. I stay up super late so I can avoid getting weird dreams. I know I need the sleep though so we’ll see how long this lasts.
Maternity Clothes: Fortunately, most of my dresses are maternity friendly so I’ve been wearing dresses, leggings, and sweats a lot. I try to put on jeans and it’s rough to say the least haha. Hopefully my maternity jeans fit soon. I need to find some maternity shorts because I really don’t want to have to wear dresses all summer and I don’t want to wear jeans all the time.
Wedding Ring on/off?: Wedding Ring on/off?: On! I’ve missed wearing it.
Favorite Moment of the Week: Seeing our Baby Bear! He is seriously amazing. He reminds me so much of Chad already- long legs and a big head haha! He’s a wiggle worm and he’s so incredible & we love him so much already.’
Also, we have a new nephew! We are pumped that Faith is doing well and brought beautiful baby Leon into this world! We can’t wait to meet him!
Least Favorite Moment of the Week: I’ve gotten a lot of rude comments this week with things regarding my size, my weight, becoming a mom of more than 1 boy, etc. A lot of them have been really hurtful. I hope in the future people take into consideration how hard some of those comments are to hear, especially when saying them to someone who might have really struggled to conceive, has health issues, etc.
Looking Forward To: General Conference! I need a bit of an emotional and spiritual boost and I’m so excited to listen to church leaders speak the word of God.
I’m also really looking forward to doing some decorating in our house. I get to redecorate Chad’s room and we are working on finding a way to put 2 cribs in Chad’s room! I’m also getting started on figuring out when we are going to finish painting our kitchen cabinets. There’s a lot that I would like to get done before it’s hot and I’m too uncomfortable to be actively involved in my projects.
UPDATE ON CHAD
Chad is 22 months…I can’t believe he is so close to being 2! He has learned so much over the past several weeks. Here are a few highlights of Chad’s life and his new talents:
- Spent a week with Babci & Dziadziu in Santa Barbara while we were in Mexico. He saw a lot of animals at the Santa Barbara Zoo and Natural History Museum.
- Can count from 1-10. We seriously question where he learned this from because we haven’t really ever taught him to count, but this just goes to show how much children listen and imitate those around them.
- Likes to sing “Wheels on the Bus” (bus round), “Twinkle, Twinkle, Littler Star” (star high) “Popcorn Popping” (pop) and “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” (pider pider rain sun), including hand motions.
- Says the names of animals rather than just the sounds they make (really loves bears & tigers right now)
- Loves playing with water and finally took a bath without crying when he got his head wet.
- Tells us when he has a dirty diaper
- Says please & thank you.
- Favorite questions: More? Open it? Outside?
- Likes sugar, like his dad
- Loves to color, especially on furniture
Thank you so much to everyone who has shared congratulations and excitement with us over our news of having another boy. I am so grateful for the support system we have already. Huge shout out to my parents, sisters, and close friends who have been there for me throughout my pregnancy. I really couldn’t handle all the emotion that comes with growing a family without them.
I promise I will be better at blogging! I’ve been all over the place and life has really caught up to me, but expect to see me posting more regularly, and not just about my pregnancy or Chad 😉
