Now that the weather is consistently sunny, going to the park has been so much fun! Chad was a new walker last summer and he didn’t really get to take advantage of playing on playgrounds, throwing balls, etc. This summer is a whole new story! Chad loves playgrounds, running around on the grass, picking up rocks and sticks, and getting dirty.
I feel so blessed to have so many parks around where we live. Utah is FULL of them! Although all of them are tons of fun, there aren’t many that have shade, which makes it hard for an expecting mother and a 2 year old to spent a lot of time there. We have 2 parks within walking distance of our house that are for our neighborhood and we love to go there just to get some fresh air, play a little, and then walk home. When we want to spend longer than an hour playing, we go to a shaded park close to the Lehi Legacy Center. Chad absolutely LOVES it there. It’s a pretty tall play structure, so when he gets stuck it’s quite difficult for me to haul myself up to the top on a ladder and then carry Chad down, but we manage somehow! I usually just sit on a bench and watch him play. He loves to explore and is starting to be more adventurous; I love it!
Chad’s favorite things to do at the park are:
- Pick up woodchips
- Climb UP slides
- Climb ladders
- Swing (this is a new one. They terrified him last year!)
- Find rocks
- Run across bridges
Chad’s least favorite park activities are:
- Going DOWN slides
- Crawling through tunnels
- Hot metal or plastic
- Being surrounded by too many big kids
- Leaving 😂
When it comes to going to the park, I really have to prepare because it’s so warm out. Here’s an idea of the things we like to bring
- Hats (for both of us)
- Sunscreen (for both of us)
- LOTS of Water
- A blanket to sit on. I really want one of these Gathre mats one day!
- Snacks: usually crackers, applesauce, trail mix, anything that doesn’t need to be cold so I can eliminate carrying a cooler or anything that’s not really necessary.
- Diapers & wipes, plus extra wipes for cleaning off dirty hands
I do my best to give my full attention Chad when he plays. It’s really not worth being on my phone (unless it’s to take pictures of him) because I really want to be there to experience everything, make sure he’s safe, and I don’t want to miss his little moments of victory, like climbing something successfully for the first time. We love being outside! Come join us next time!
