Kurt and I celebrated 5 years of marriage this weekend! We had such an incredible time. Friday afternoon around 4:30, Kurt’s parents and a couple of our nephews arrived so we could leave for our little getaway. We left our house, went and grabbed some Swig, and drove to SLC!
We had dinner at Alamexo Mexican Kitchen and it was soooo good. We ordered the Alamexo Classic Guacamole (avocados, jalapeños, onion, cilantro, and tomatoes, and can be made mild, medium, or hot) that is made tableside. I got the Enchiladas Suizas and Kurt got the Bistek Con Mole Rojo- we both really enjoyed what we ordered and before we were finished we were already talking about what we would order next time!
After dinner, we made our way to our hotel. We had such a fun time staying at Anniversary Inn! Martinelli’s, cheesecake, watching the Jazz vs. Thunder game in our room, breakfast in bed, and a jetted tub made for a great local, and much needed, getaway. The only thing I didn’t like about our getaway is that it ended so soon. But I did miss our kids. Fortunately they were in good hands and I was spending quality time with my best friend so I didn’t miss them too much. I’m grateful for the chance to relax and reconnect with Kurt because I think it makes us better parents. I love opportunities that give us the change to grow our relationship and help us realize how blessed we are.
It was incredible reflecting on the past 5 years. We’ve had a lot of really, really, difficult times that have been close to impossible to overcoming. We’re still experiencing some of those things, but we almost couldn’t believe all of the amazing experiences we’ve had since 2013. We’ve traveled to California (Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach, Oceanside, San Diego, San Francisco), Nevada (Las Vegas), Oregon (Eugene, and then I’ve made a few visits to Portland), Washington D.C., Virginia (Richmond, Fairfax), Arizona (Gilbert, Mesa, Horseshoe Bend/Grand Canyon), Utah (St. George, Cedar City, Utah County, Park City, Midway, Heber, Salt Lake, Ogden, Logan), Idaho (Preston, Mink Creek), and Mexico (Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cabo). We’ve lived in 2 apartments and bought a house. We bought a car. We’ve had 2 beautiful children. Kurt started as a staff accountant and is now working as the Director of Operations for a company we love. We’ve made SO many new friends. I graduated dental hygiene school debt free (woohoo to those who helped make that possible!). I’ve run a clothing boutique from our house. I’ve worked as a Dental Hygienist. We’ve lived in 2 different cities. We’ve attended concerts, parties, events, and so many things that have brought us joy. We have been so blessed.
We’ve learned so much being married to each other, and we still have a lot to learn. We’ve made a lot of mistakes, but it’s not worth playing “shoulda, coulda, woulda” or spending time on thinking about what might have been different if we had done or said different things. We are working hard to live in the present and move forward, and I am so grateful that Kurt and I are on the same page when it comes to our goals and what we hope to achieve when it comes to our marriage and our family.
Happy Anniversary, Kurt! I love you to the moon and back, and then to the moon and back again!
